Aleksandra
Welcome!
A little something about me that might help you decide whether we are a good fit. A good fit matters quite a lot in psychotherapy. So trust your gut, mind and heart when you are choosing a therapist.
HORÓ Counselling comes from [horó], a Bulgarian word that means dance, that You use to represent “a metaphoric open women circle” for genuine connection, energy, support and healing.
HORÓ Counselling offers a unique blend of healing modalities which sit at the intersection of Science (I am a Researcher and a Seeker), Psychotherapy (I am trained in therapeutic approaches and counselling), and Spirituality (I dig into ancient healing practices).
Although I am very glad for my traditional education in Psychology, Research, and Psychotherapy, I am aware of their limitations when it comes to discovering the deep connection between body, mind as soul.
As Psychology quite often fails to understand the uniqueness of the individual in its attempt for scientific rigor and legitimacy, other frameworks that are both ancient and currently gaining popularity, offer equally unique therapeutic benefits.
HORÓ Counselling is grounded in therapeutic approaches that are both solid and effective (masculine principle) as well as fluid, spontaneous and deep (feminine).
HORÓ is a dance between these principles.
The yin and yang, the story and the statistics, the spiritual and the material, the feminine and the masculine, light and dark, pain and love, intuition and logic. Holding these oppositions within is central to healing.
About me: I am a Mother of a 13-year old little big man. He was born in the USA where my husband and I lived for 7 years.
We all moved to Brisbane, Australia 10 years ago, as I was offered an IPRS scholarship at the University of Queensland where I explored and developed a holistic approach to Maternal Mental Health as part of my Doctorate at the School of Psychology.
I have been studying, training, working and engaging in Psychology since 1999 (if you are curious check my Qualifications), and I love evolving and mastering my Skillset into something I now call SOUL WORK.
I am an Academic – a researcher in Perinatal Mental Health, from a Feminist framework, specializing in Anxiety, Depression and Distress related to Motherhood. I publish regularly in scientific journals as I believe fully in the need for a solid evidence base when working with people.
I am also a Psychotherapist where I get to APPLY all this body of knowledge. I opened my own little nest of magic 3 years ago, in Brisbane (Annerley), Australia where I provide support to:
• Mothers • though the “Motherhood out loud” sessions • support from pre-conception, fertility, through pregnancy, birth, motherhood, postnatal depression/anxiety/distress, and beyond. Please check out the “NO TRAUMA MAMA” Bundle for a wrap around service from pregnancy through birth and beyond
• Women • through IFS individual sessions • for those of us who feel like they would like to live a more integrated, whole, and soulful life, and Self-lead life.
I lead Women’s groups that explore various concepts around human connection, what it means to be a 21 century woman, a mother through Jungian informed practices, Art, Storytelling, and Archetypal work.
My work approach is informed by:
💗Internal Family Systems (IFS); I am level 2 IFS certified)
💗Psychoanalytic, Depth and Jungian Psychology
💗Archetypal work
💗Dream work
💗Storytelling
💗Buddhist approaches to Therapy
💗Mindbody (in a 1 word way too) connection
💗Relational/attachment trauma
But most importantly, my approach is informed by 💗💗💗YOU💗💗💗
Currently, I am offering both Individual Counselling and I put together women groups, on self-care, feminine intuition, inner child, dream analysis, IFS, and so much more.
I also write books (for children and story-tales for grown ups) because I fully believe that stories carry an enormous transformative power!
Stories are medicine (Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Women who run with the wolves)
I am training with Jungian Analyst and Depth Psychology keeper of the old ways, cantadora Dr Clarissa Pinkola Estes, who has deeply influenced and transformed the lives of women across the world with her approaches to storytelling, archetypal work, myths and embodied connection. My work with her has been deeply transformative!
My interests revolve around Mothering, the concept of the”Bad Mother”, Death Mother Complex, Feminism for boys and girls, Fatherhood, Gender diverse families, and alternative approaches to health and healing.
Both my work and life are grounded in Feminism and Social activism to progress environmental, anti-stigma and awareness-raising causes.
Welcome, once again! I am so glad you connected 🥰
Get in touch if any of my modalities are of interest, and if you are keen to dive deeper into your Soul.
